Kitty Scott’s more-than-human world

Chief curator Kitty Scott brings the exhibition into the territory between human intelligence and other forms of life. Her experience includes curatorial posts at the Art Gallery of Ontario, the National Gallery of Canada, London’s Serpentine Gallery and Banff. Daisy Desrosiers and Xue Tan are co-curators.

The announced selection comprises 67 artists and collectives and more than 250 works. Francis Alÿs, Haegue Yang, Huang Yongping, Christine Sun Kim, Rirkrit Tiravanija and Theaster Gates are among the participants. That range puts sound, social interaction and the built environment alongside painting and sculpture. The title has a literal scientific starting point; the exhibition broadens it into questions about communication and coexistence.

Art beyond the power station

City Projects extend the programme into Shanghai, including Jia Yuan Hai Art Museum and VILLA tbh. Gates and Maxime Cavajani are among the artists announced for Jia Yuan Hai. This gives the Biennale a different geographical reach from an exhibition contained within one institution.
