Plan with confidence

A few useful things before we walk.

Three hours should feel well spent. Here's how we plan the details around your visit.

How do I arrange a walk?

Choose a walk or personal shopping and share your date, group size and interests. Availability, the total and arrangements are agreed before confirmation.

How much does a walk cost?

Choose RMB or USD. Food is ¥1,400 per person, minimum two, tastings included. History and architecture are ¥2,300 for three hours for a group of 2–4. Shopping is ¥1,000/hour for a group of 2–4, with no minimum duration. History, architecture and shopping add ¥600 once per guest beyond four. Your confirmation states the agreed currency and total.

Is there a minimum group size?

All experiences have a minimum of two guests. History, architecture and shopping include 2–4 guests at the published group rate. Each guest beyond four adds ¥600 once per visit; please discuss a larger group before confirming. Food is priced per person, with a minimum of two.

What language are the walks in?

Your private Shanghai tour is led by Edward Wu, a Chinese American guide raised in Shanghai. Tours are in English; Edward speaks native English and fluent Mandarin and Shanghainese. Local language helps us read menus, talk to makers and understand the city along the way.

Where do we meet?

The food walk starts around Huanghe Road; the history walk near the former HSBC building on the Bund; the architecture walk near the Wukang Building. Your confirmation includes an exact meeting point and finish area.

How much walking is involved?

The food route is approximately 1–2 km. History and architecture routes are approximately 2–3 km, with frequent stops. These are walking experiences, so expect some standing, crossings and uneven or crowded sections.

Can you accommodate a mobility or access need?

Tell me about the practical support you need before confirming: step-free access, a slower pace, seating or a shorter distance. We can assess the route together. Narrow pavements, bridge approaches and small eateries mean a route cannot be assumed fully accessible.

What about food allergies or dietary restrictions?

Please raise these before confirming a food walk. Pork, shellfish, wheat, soy and sesame are common, and shared kitchens may have cross-contact. We will check the proposed dishes and discuss whether a suitable plan is possible.

Are the walks suitable for children?

Share the children's ages and how comfortable they are walking and trying food. We can discuss the pace, topics and any practical adjustments before you decide.

What should I bring?

Comfortable shoes, water and what you need for the day's weather. In warmer months, consider sun protection; in wet weather, a compact umbrella is useful. Leave room in your plans after the scheduled finish if you are connecting to a train, airport transfer or other fixed appointment.

What happens if the weather is poor?

Weather and safe walking conditions are reviewed around your date. Any route adjustment, rescheduling option or cancellation arrangement will follow the terms in your confirmation. The history and architecture walks are mainly outdoors.

Are transport and hotel pickup included?

The walks begin at the agreed neighborhood meeting point. Transport and hotel pickup are not included unless specifically listed in your quote.

Can I combine all three subjects in three hours?

Each route has one main focus so there is time to enjoy it. The conversation naturally overlaps with other subjects. If you have a particular combination in mind, mention it in your request and we can discuss what fits geographically.

When is my booking confirmed?

A date request is an inquiry. The booking is confirmed only when you receive explicit written confirmation after agreeing availability, price, inclusions and the applicable terms.

When do the food tours start?

The morning food tour starts between 09:00 and 10:00. The later food tour is available from around 11:30. Agree your exact start time in advance; later lunch starts depend on restaurant hours.

How much food should I expect?

Both food tours are generous, full-meal experiences. Come hungry: even big eaters should expect to leave very full. Restaurants are chosen for food quality and their connection to Shanghai’s benbang tradition, rather than social-media trends.

Can we explore fashion and design?

Yes. Shanghai personal shopping has two directions: contemporary Chinese designer brands, including fashion, perfume and bags; or custom suits and qipao around Maoming Road. Tell me your style, budget and available time. I can help you compare products, discuss appropriate pricing and ask about available discounts. Purchases, discounts and tailoring lead times depend on the individual store.

Can I request something different or a longer experience?

Yes. Contact me if your interests go beyond the listed experiences, you want more time, or you have an unusual request. Share your dates, group size, interests and preferred duration. We can discuss what is possible and agree a route, duration and quote before confirming.
