Beyond a single sneaker

In Logan Fairbrother's January 2026 Hypebeast interview, founder Chen Ning's background in bespoke menswear helps explain the attention to shape and everyday use. The discussion connects the Light Training NO-GI's visibility with an ambition extending beyond a single successful sneaker.

A useful idea from that conversation is the whole encounter: the shoe, the place in which you discover it and how it enters an ordinary wardrobe. Fairbrother's full interview includes the team's answers and brand photographs; it is linked below.

Start with proportion, then try the shoe

PANE's own introduction describes a balance between personal style and the experience of wearing the product. That is a better starting point than deciding from an online silhouette alone. Look at the relationship between toe, sole, upper and the hem of your trousers.

Try the pair with the socks you expect to wear and walk enough to notice heel movement, toe space and how the upper bends. Your favorite visual proportion may behave differently on your foot. Compare the same model in neighboring sizes if the shop can provide them, then ask how the material is expected to change with use.

Where to begin in Shanghai

PANE's official directory lists its Yongyuan Road flagship at No. 22 and a Huaihai Middle Road store at No. 523, units L1-05 and L1-06. Check the directory before setting out and ask the shop directly about the pair you want to try.

Pick one location that fits the rest of your day. A successful visit may be a careful try-on and no purchase. Establish the local return and exchange terms before paying, especially if you will leave Shanghai soon. An overseas web shop's policies need not be identical to a physical store's.

Three questions for a closer look

Ask which differences between two models are about construction rather than appearance; what care the exact upper needs; and how the fit should feel at the first try-on. Request an explanation tied to the pair in front of you.

For a shopping visit with Edward, bring a photograph of the shape you like and a realistic budget. We can compare a few options, try them on and ask about care, returns and current stock.
