A world built around the stage

Planaxis gives the production a recognisable visual language before a single DJ is named. The MainStage is conceived as an underwater environment, with light, sound and moving images extending the story around the audience. It is an unusually theatrical proposition for a dance event: the setting is part of what people are coming to see.

The format also makes Shanghai distinctive within Tomorrowland’s expanding geography. Its China debut in 2025 was announced as the brand’s first indoor show, developed with Hero Esports, INS Land and Budweiser. That partnership includes an exchange between One World Artists and INS Land, intended to put Chinese performers on international stages as well as bring overseas artists here.

Two different days

Each October date will have its own lineup. International artists and emerging local performers are promised, while the wider venue will include interactive areas, food, drinks and Shanghai-specific merchandise. The full artist roster has yet to be announced.

I like the two-day structure for a simple reason: it gives the programme room for different musical identities. The eventual roster will matter more than an assumption that a familiar festival name means the same show everywhere.

Dates and registration

The dates are 17–18 October 2026 at Hero Dome, 688 Jumen Road, Huangpu (黄浦区局门路688号). Preregistration is open through the INS Land app and WeChat mini programme. Ticket details are due in August; preregistration does not include admission.
