Begin with the label’s own account
SHUSHU/TONG describes itself as a Shanghai-based label established by Liushu Lei and Yutong Jiang in 2015. The official profile identifies ruffles and bows, an interest in distinctive silhouettes and tailoring developed in-house. Its designers’ biographies trace their studies at London College of Fashion and subsequent work before founding the label.
In the official Spring/Summer 2025 photographs, follow the relationship between a garment's outline, its details and the way it is styled. Choose one feature that interests you, then use it as a starting point when looking at more recent pieces in a shop.
Choose one detail to follow
Select one look in the archive and one element within it: the size of a bow, the volume of a skirt or the relationship between a collar and shoulder. Ask what that element does to the outline. Does your eye stay near the face, travel across the shoulder or settle on a hem? That is a more useful exercise than simply deciding that the whole look is dramatic.
Then imagine the same piece with the clothes you actually wear. A distinctive top might change completely when paired with your everyday trousers. A skirt’s effect may depend on length and volume more than on decoration. Save a reference image on your own device so you can explain the feature you are interested in, without expecting an exact archived item to be available.
Let the shop supply the missing information
Ask for the season, exact model and composition of the garment in front of you. If it resembles an older image, ask whether it is that piece, a later variation or a different design altogether. Collection photographs cannot establish fibre content or care requirements when those details are not stated.
Try it with permission and look at it from the side as well as the front. Sit or walk if the garment allows. Check how the defining detail behaves when you stop posing. Ask about alteration limits before assuming a volume, fastening or decorated section can be changed while retaining the intended design.
Decide what you want to take home
Sometimes the useful discovery is a way of wearing something you already own. Sometimes it is one piece that makes a familiar outfit feel different. Keep the interest specific, and the collection becomes a tool for seeing rather than a shopping list. The official archive linked below is a starting point for making those comparisons.
